Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz
Stormbreaker was good the first time I read it and maybe even better the 2nd time! A 14 year old British Spy… even without cell phones and gadgets based on Gameboys this book delivers time and again just like the Ian Flemming James Bond book, on which Horowitz based the book series, Stormbreaker is fast pace and fun to read.  The best is that there are 13 more in the series!  BUT DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIE IT IS TERRIBLE!!!!

Edie has always known she had Native American heritage and that her mom was adopted by a white couple. Edie is also sure that her family doesn’t have any answers to her heritage. Then one day Edie and her friends discover a box hidden in the attic – a box full of letters signed “Love, Edith”, and photos of a woman who looks just like her. Suddenly, Edie has a flurry of new questions about this woman who shares her name. Could she belong to a Native family that Edie never knew about? But if her mom and dad have kept this secret from her all her life, how can she find out the truth now? Will parents tell her? This story took time to get into. But, when the ending comes it is well worth it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

It’s So Difficult by Raúl Nieto Guridi
What was difficult was reading this book.  It is painful for some children to speak but with help and calm they can usually manage.  I found this book difficult to relate to.
It is however an empathetic look at anxiety and overstimulation. Even the smallest step forward can be an enormous triumph.

The Fort by Gordon Korman
This is the story of a middle-school “band of brothers”. For a few hours I got to look over the shoulders of  Evan, Jason, Mitchell, and CJ, Let into a secret society where they hung out in a glorious old bomb shelter filled with relics and treasure from a by gone era. They banded together and slowly revealed their secret problems to each other.  None have perfect home lives despite how it looks from the outside. Like the Berenstain Bears “No Girls Allowed”, this is a boys book, a shared  experience that they all thought idyllic. The reader learns about their quirks and fears, their problems and the fun they had. But… would it last? Could it last?   You will have to become friends with them for a while and find out.

Groosham Grange by David Horowitz
Long before there was Harry Potter there was David Eliot. A misfit in school and always in trouble, with parents that make the Dursely’s seem like “Parents of the Year”! At 12 he is invited by a message to attend the Grange on an Island off the coast of Norfolk where strange students and even stranger teachers deal with magic. David Eliot arrives home for the Christmas holidays to tell his parents that he has just been expelled from Beton College. His father reacts badly, forcing David to take refuge in his room. David’s father makes all the arrangements and David is sent to this new boarding school called Groosham Grange immediately via a train, despite the Christmas holidays. On the train, he befriends a boy called Jeffrey and a girl named Jill Green, who are both in the same odd situation as him. On the station platform, they meet Gregor, a hunchback with one eye who is the school’s porter. He drives them to a pier where they take a boat to the island on which Groosham Grange is located. To those who have read Harry Potter  there are many similarities and even more in the 2nd book of the series. A lot shorter than Harry Potter this could be the perfect launch pad for 4-5th grade students to have a longing for more detail in the wizarding world.

The Stern Chase Brother Band by John Flannagan
Climb aboard with the Herons in The Stern Chase, the exciting ninth installment of the Brotherband Chronicles! They are fighting Iberian raiders who they had encountered along the Sonderland Coast where they were doing sea trials for the newly constructed Heron.  That’s where Hal and the rest of the Brotherband take action against the Iberians. The Herons quickly triumph, but the Iberians voice their fury, vowing to take revenge. And they do—raiding the Scandian’s harbor at Halisholm  and stealing or destroying as many ships as they can. Though there is little proof the Iberians are behind it, the Herons take their ship, the only one that has survived the raid—and race after their enemy in hot pursuit.
They will take down these pirates and get justice—no matter what!
